Ice Storm Warning
Issued: 4:21 AM CST Jan. 16, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Ice Storm Warning in effect until midnight CST tonight...

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued an Ice
Storm Warning, which is in effect until midnight CST tonight. The
Winter Weather Advisory is no longer in effect.

* Short term trends... freezing rain will continue through 6 am
then will diminish some through mid morning before another round
of moderate freezing rain arrives.

* Storm total ice accumulations... there is the potential for ice
accumulations from two to three tenths of an inch with localized
areas four tenths of an inch. A light snow/sleet mix is also
possible with any accumulations an inch or less.

* Winds... east to northeast winds at 5 to 10 mph.

* Impacts... extremely hazardous travel due to ice covered and very
slick roads. Sidewalks and parking lots will be slick. Tree
damage and power outages are possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An Ice Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Significant amounts of ice accumulations
will make travel dangerous or impossible. Travel is strongly
discouraged. Commerce will likely be severely impacted. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency. Ice accumulations and winds will
likely lead to snapped power lines and falling tree branches that
add to the danger.
