Wednesday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a high wind
watch... which is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through
Wednesday afternoon.

* Winds... south 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph.

* Timing... winds will increase late Tuesday and are expected to
peak Wednesday morning into the afternoon before decreasing late
Wednesday.

* Locations include... Gold Beach... Port Orford... Bandon.

* Impacts... strong winds produce hazardous driving conditions on
Highway 101. Saturated soils and high winds could combine to
increase the risk for downed trees and power outages.

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest

The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a Gale
Warning... which is in effect from 10 am Tuesday to 4 PM PST
Wednesday.

* Winds... Tuesday afternoon and evening south winds are likely
to increase to 25 to 35 knots and then are likely to increase
further Tuesday night into Wednesday to 35 kt to as high as 50
knots.

* Seas... south wind waves and 14 second period west swell are
expected to combine Tuesday through Wednesday to peak seas in
the 19 to 27 foot range. Later next week 25 foot west swell is
possible.

* Areas affected... the gale watch is valid for the entire area.
The storm watch is in effect for portions of the area outside 10
nautical miles to 50 nm from the coast... except near the coast
near Cape Blanco. Winds are expected to be strongest in the
vicinity of Cape Blanco.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A gale watch is issued when the risk of gale force winds of 34 to
47 knots has significantly increased... but the specific timing
and/or location is still uncertain. It is intended to provide
additional lead time for mariners who may wish to consider
altering their plans.

A storm watch is issued when the risk of storm force winds of
48 to 63 knots has significantly increased... but the specific
timing and/or location is still uncertain. It is intended to
provide additional lead time for mariners who may wish to
consider altering their plans.

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots along with very
steep and hazardous seas are imminent or occurring. Operating a
vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly
equipped vessels. It is highly recommended that mariners without
the proper experience seek safe Harbor prior to the onset of gale
conditions.
