Watches & Warnings

Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 4:12 AM CST Jan. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from noon today to 6 PM
CST Wednesday...

* timing... snow will spread west to east across the area late this
morning and through the afternoon hours and continue into
Wednesday. Blowing and drifting snow is also anticipated
Wednesday as the wind increases.

* Storm total snow accumulations... 8 to 12 inches with the highest
amounts toward the Minnesota border. Very localized heavier
amounts may be possible across far northern Iowa. The snow may
be wet and heavy initially into tonight.

* Winds/visibility... northwest winds may gust to 30 to 40 mph
during the day Wednesday. Substantial visibility restrictions
due to snowfall Tuesday night and then blowing and drifting snow
Wednesday are likely.

* Impacts... roads will become slick and snow covered. The snow and
blowing snow will create visibility restrictions and the
combination of these elements will lead to hazardous travel
conditions. This system will likely impact both the evening
commute tonight and the morning commute on Wednesday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected. Significant amounts of snow are forecast
that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If
you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency. Strong winds are also possible.
This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
