Freezing Rain Advisory
Issued: 5:35 PM EST Jan. 16, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Freezing Rain Advisory remains in effect from 7 am Tuesday to
7 am EST Wednesday...

* locations... Mid Hudson valley... eastern Catskills and
helderbergs... Mohawk Valley... capital region... and Taconics.

* Hazard types... freezing rain... possibly mixed with some snow
or sleet at times.

* Ice accumulations... ice accretion of a trace to up to one
tenth of an inch in valleys... and one tenth to one quarter of
an inch across higher elevations.

* Timing... very light precipitation in the form of freezing
rain... sleet or snow is possible Tuesday morning. Steadier
precipitation is expected to develop later Tuesday afternoon
and continue into Tuesday night. Most of this precipitation
will be in the form of freezing rain across higher
elevations... and rain occasionally mixed with freezing rain in
valleys. Precipitation tapers off toward daybreak Wednesday.

* Impacts... ice covered roadways will make for hazardous travel.
Untreated walkways... driveways and sidewalks will be very
slippery. Some isolated to scattered power outages are
possible in areas that receive the most significant freezing
rain. Light icing may still occur even after temperatures rise
above freezing.

* Winds... east to southeast 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

* Temperatures... in the lower to mid 30s in valleys... and upper
20s to lower 30s across higher elevations.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Freezing Rain Advisory means that periods of freezing rain or
freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving.
