... Heat advisory in effect until 7 PM EDT this evening...

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a heat
advisory... which is in effect until 7 PM EDT this evening.

* Heat index values... 100 to 102 due to temperatures in the low
to mid 90s... and dewpoints in the low 70s.

* Impacts... heat exhaustion and other heat related illnesses will
be possible... especially if you spend a significant amount of
time outdoors... or are involved in any strenuous outdoor
activity.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions... if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible
and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency... call 911.

... Hot and humid conditions expected again this afternoon...

Temperatures this afternoon will soar into the lower to mid
90s. This combined with high humidity... will result in heat
indices in the upper 90s to 100 degrees this
afternoon... especially in urban areas within the river valleys.

To reduce heat related health issues during outside work...
schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned
environments. In addition..wear light weight and loose fitting
clothing and drink plenty of water.
