Issued: 12:17 AM PST Jan. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Watch in effect from Thursday evening through
Friday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Medford has downgraded the Winter
Storm Warning to a Winter Weather Advisory for snow... which is in
effect until 10 am PST Thursday. A Winter Storm Watch has also
been issued for heavy snow and is in effect from Thursday evening
through Friday afternoon.

* Snow accumulations... 2 to 6 inches through 10 am Thursday... then
another 8 to 12 inches possible Thursday night into Friday. Up
to 20 inches of new snow could accumulate near snowman Summit.

* Winds... south 15 to 25 mph causing some blowing and drifting
snow.

* Elevation... all areas tonight. The heaviest snow Thursday night
into Friday will be above 3000 feet.

* Timing... occasional snow tonight into Thursday morning... then
another period of heavy, wet snow is possible Thursday night
into Friday.

* Locations include... Mount Shasta city... McLoud... and
Dunsmuir... including Black Butte Summit on Interstate 5 and
snowman Summit on Highway 89.

* Impacts... periods of snow will make travel difficult on area
roadways tonight into Thursday morning... then heavy wet snow
could lead to extremely hazardous travel conditions with low
visibility Thursday night into Friday. Some roads could become
impassable. The heavy, wet snow could also snap tree limbs and
down power lines.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

* slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.

* Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and
limited visibilities.

* See weather.Gov/Medford/cams for latest Road conditions.

* A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause travel difficulties.

* A Winter Storm Watch for heavy snow means there is a potential
for significant snow accumulations that may severely impact
travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
