Coastal Flood Warning
Issued: 1:42 AM EST Jan. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 am EST this
morning...

* location... coastal areas of New Jersey and Delaware including
Delaware Bay.

* Coastal flooding... areas of moderate flooding are anticipated
with the high tide this morning.

* Timing... high tide on the New Jersey and Delaware oceanfront
occurs between 4:30 and 5:30 am this morning. High tide on the
back bays... along Raritan Bay and along Delaware Bay occurs
later than the high tide on the oceanfront.

* Surge... generally 2.5 to 3.0 feet above the astronomical tide
around this morning's high tide.

* Waves... around 8 to 12 feet off the coasts of New Jersey and
Delaware this morning... and 2 to 5 feet on Delaware Bay.

* Impacts... numerous roadways will flood and minor property damage
is possible. The extent of the flooding will be similar to that
experienced on Monday afternoon and evening at many locations
and it may be slightly less at others. Battering waves will continue
to result in significant beach erosion.

* Outlook... with winds becoming offshore today, the surge will
diminish and no additional flooding is expected for the high
tide late this afternoon into this evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is expected. Coastal
residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water...
and take appropriate action to protect life and property.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged... leading to
costly repairs.
