Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory, Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 1:11 AM EDT Jul. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... The flood advisory remains in effect until 245 am EDT for east
central Hunterdon... southern Somerset... northeastern Monmouth and
central Middlesex counties...

At 107 am EDT, the rain has basically ended. Any minor flooding
should soon recede although a couple of small streams in Somerset
and Hunterdon counties will probably be rising early this morning
due to the runoff from the 1.5 to 2.5 inch rainfall.

Some locations that may have experienced flooding include...
New Brunswick, Middletown, Old Bridge, East Brunswick, Sayreville,
North Brunswick, Matawan, Highlands, Flemington, Brownville,
Navesink, Cloverhill, Belle Mead, North Brunswick township, Kendall
Park, South River, Spotswood, Keyport, Rumson and Milltown.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

... Coastal flood advisory in effect from 7 PM Sunday evening to 1
am EDT Monday...
... Coastal flood advisory in effect for Saturday evening has
expired...

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a coastal
flood advisory... which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to
1 am EDT Monday.

* Locations... coastal areas of New Jersey and Delaware... and
areas along Delaware Bay.

* Coastal flooding... minor flooding is anticipated around the
time of this evening's high tide.

* Timing... high tide on the New Jersey and Delaware oceanfront
occurs between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM this evening. High tide on
the back bays... along Delaware Bay and along Raritan Bay occurs
later than the high tide on the oceanfront.

* Surge... up to a foot above the astronomical tide.

* Waves... wave heights on the ocean waters off the coast are
forecast to be 3 to 4 feet. Wave heights on Delaware Bay are
expected to be 1 to 2 feet.

* Impacts... localized roadway flooding is expected. Some roads may
be closed due to high water.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some Road
closures. Usually... the most vulnerable roadways will flood.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged... leading to
costly repairs.
