Watches & Warnings

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 2:10 PM PDT Jul. 30, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning remains in effect until 11 PM PDT this
evening for dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds for fire
weather zones 454... 455... 457 and 469...

* affected area... fire weather zone 454 central Lander and
Eureka counties... fire weather zone 455 White Pine County...
fire weather zone 457 northern Nye County/Lander and Eureka
counties south of Highway 50 and fire weather zone 469
southwestern and central Elko County.

* Thunderstorm coverage... isolated dry thunderstorms early in
the afternoon are expected to develop to scattered mostly dry
thunderstorms during the late afternoon and evening. A mix of
dry and wet thunderstorms will be possible over the mountains.

* Outflow winds... erratic winds with gusts to 50 mph will be
possible with thunderstorms.

* Impacts... dry lightning may create new fire starts and combine
with strong outflow winds to produce rapid fire growth.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures
can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
