Watches & Warnings

Heat Advisory
Issued: 3:48 PM PDT Jul. 28, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 5 PM PDT Friday...

* temperature... 99 to 104 degrees each afternoon through Friday.

* Impacts... temperatures in this range are unusual and prolonged
exposure without relief or frequent hydration could lead to heat
stroke. Even though it is not humid, your sweat cannot cool you
off fast enough. Soon, you stop sweating and then you get sick.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work... the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency - call 911.

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 2:50 PM PDT Jul. 28, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning in effect from 1 PM to 11 PM PDT Friday for
dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds for fire weather zones
454... 455 and 457...

The National Weather Service in Elko has issued a red flag
warning for dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds... which is
in effect from 1 PM to 11 PM PDT Friday.

* Affected area... fire weather zone 454 central Lander and
Eureka counties... fire weather zone 455 White Pine County and
fire weather zone 457 northern Nye County/Lander and Eureka
counties south of Highway 50.

* Thunderstorm coverage... isolated dry thunderstorms are expected
to develop Friday afternoon and last through the evening. The
highest thunderstorm threat will be south of Highway 50.

* Outflow winds... erratic winds with gusts to 50 mph will be
possible with thunderstorms.

* Impacts... dry lightning may create new fire starts and combine
with strong outflow winds to produce rapid fire growth.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
