Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 8:11 AM PST Dec. 10, 2016 – National Weather Service

... The Flood Advisory for rapid rises remains in effect until 1245 PM
PST for alpine... El Dorado... Placer... Sierra... Nevada... southern
Washoe... and Douglas counties and western Carson City...

At 801 am PST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from an
atmospheric river continues with snow levels hovering near 8000
feet. Several creeks along the West Shore of Lake Tahoe and on the
west side of Reno are rising rapidly.

At this time the areas of highest concern for minor flooding are
near Blackwood creek, Ward creek and Donner creek in the Lake Tahoe
area. Hunter Creek on the west side of Reno is also rising rapidly
and may exceed it banks this morning.

Rock slides have also occurred on I-80 between Donner Pass and Verdi.
Motorists are urged to use caution and reduce speed while
traveling today.

Heavy rain in the advisory area will continue through at least 10 am.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
