Lake Wind Advisory
Issued: 2:59 PM PDT Mar. 30, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM PDT this Evening...
... Lake Wind Advisory in effect from 10 am to 6 PM PDT Friday for
Lake Tahoe...

* timing: strong northerly winds behind a cold front will continue
through early evening before diminishing. Northeast winds will
increase on ridges Friday with some strong winds affecting Lake
Tahoe during the day Friday producing rough waters.

* Winds: through early evening north winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts
up to 50 mph. On Friday, northeast ridge winds gusting to 75 mph
especially along the Sierra crest. Winds Friday on Lake Tahoe
northeast 25 to 35 mph with the strongest winds toward the west
shores.

* Waves on lake tahoe: 2 to 4 feet today and Friday. Highest waves
on eastern and Southern Shores today, and on the Western Shores
Friday.

* Impacts: strong Crosswinds will produce hazardous travel
conditions for high profile vehicles. Expect turbulence and
areas of wind shear for aviation. Small boats, kayaks and
paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain
off lake waters until conditions improve.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

The strong winds are here now, it's too late to prepare. If
driving around Nevada or the Sierra, check Road conditions with
ndot or caltrans before leaving.

For those considering boating on Lake Tahoe Friday, check lake
conditions before heading out and be prepared for a sudden
increase in winds and wave heights. Consider postponing boating
activities on the lake until a day with less wind.
