... Flood Warning extended until Monday morning...

The Flood Warning continues for
the lookout creek near New England.
* Until Monday morning.
* At 130 PM Sunday the stage was 12.3 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is forecast to
continue.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* The creek will continue rising, reaching around 13 feet this
evening, then fall below flood stage early Monday morning.
* Between 12 and 13 feet, minor flooding occurs along Sells Lane in
Trenton, Mason Road near Rising Fawn and Creek Road near New
England, some of these roads may need to be closed. Also, minor
flooding occurs in The Pasture and grazing land in the flood plain.
Minor flooding of the creek can also be expected much further
downstream as it crosses the Tennessee border into the tiftona
area.

* at 1233 PM EDT/1133 am CDT/, emergency management reported
flooding across locations across the warning area. Numerous
secondary roads have been closed due to flooding and small creeks
and streams are out of their banks. Between 2 to 4 inches of rain
has fallen over the last 24 to 30 hours, with localized amounts up
to 5 inches. An additional 1 to 2 inches is possible over the next
6 hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Chattanooga, Cleveland, Athens, Dayton, Dunlap, Jasper, Pikeville,
Decatur, Benton, Ducktown, Soddy-Daisy, Signal Mountain, Etowah,
South Pittsburg, Spring City, Walden, Lakesite, Whitwell, Kimball
and Monteagle.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

... Flash Flood Watch now in effect through this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of southwest North Carolina and east Tennessee,
including the following areas, in southwest North Carolina,
Cherokee and Clay. In east Tennessee, Anderson, Bledsoe,
Blount Smoky Mountains, Bradley, Campbell, Claiborne, east
Polk, Grainger, Hamilton, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs,
Morgan, NW Blount, northwest Monroe, Rhea, Roane, Scott TN,
Sequatchie, southeast Monroe, Union, and west Polk.

* Through this evening

* additional one to two inches of rainfall will be common across
much of the area through today with localized amounts in excess
of 3 inches possible.

* The persistent rainfall will fall on already saturated ground
across much of the area. The additional heavy rains could lead
to flooding of roadways, poor drainage areas, low lying areas
and small rivers and streams across the region.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take quick
action if flooding is observed or a Flash Flood Warning is
issued. If you come to a closed or flooded Road... turn around!
Don't drown!

Issued: 10:27 AM EDT Apr. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

* S. Chickamauga creek at Chattanooga, TN.
* At 9:15 am Sunday the stage was 13.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet... action stage is 16.0.
* Forecast... the river will rise to near 16.5 feet after midnight
tonight.
* At 18.0 feet... water begins to cross Mack Smith Road in Catoosa
County, Georgia. Flooding begins at Golf courses near the
confluence of south and west Chickamauga creeks. West Chickamauga
creek begins to overflow its banks, as well.
