Watches & Warnings

Coastal Flood Advisory, High Surf Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 7:58 PM CDT Aug. 31, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT
Friday...
... High surf advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Friday...
... High rip current risk remains in effect through Saturday
morning...

* coastal flooding... water levels 1 to 2 feet above ground level
possible.

* Surf conditions... 5 to 7 feet breakers in the surf zone along with
frequent rip currents.

* Timing... minor coastal flooding most likely during the time of high
tide through Friday evening. The next high tide will be late
Thursday morning through midday. High surf and dangerous rip
currents will persist through Friday night.

* Impacts... frequent life-threatening rip currents are expected. The
surf is dangerous for all levels of swimmers. Minor flooding is
possible... especially in typical flood prone locations along the
coast of the Gulf waters as well as area bays and sounds.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents. Rip currents are life-
threatening to anyone entering the surf. Swim near a lifeguard.
If caught in a rip current remain calm. Don't fight the current.
Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to
escape... face the shore and call or wave for help. If tired...
float or tread water until out of the rip current.

A coastal Flood Advisory means that strong winds and tides above
predicted levels will combine to generate flooding of low areas along
the shore.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.
