Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 5:20 PM MDT Jul. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Arroyo and small stream flood advisory for...
north central Cibola County in west central New Mexico...
central McKinley County in west central New Mexico...

* until 715 PM MDT.

* At 518 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to a large
area of thunderstorms moving slowly north toward the Interstate 40
corridor between Grants and Coolidge. These storms will be capable
of producing a quick 1 to 1.5 inches of rainfall. This will cause
Arroyo and small stream flooding in the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Grants, Milan, Thoreau, Prewitt, Bluewater Lake State Park,
Bluewater Lake, Coolidge and Mariano Lake.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous flows
in arroyos and over low water crossings. Do not attempt to drive
through these waters. Water in arroyos may travel many miles and take
hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.
