flooding. 2 to 3 inches of rain have fallen.

Excessive runoff from recent heavy rainfall will cause flooding of
small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and
underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
This will also cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country
roads, and farmland.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Illinois River at Chewey
* from late tonight to late Thursday night, or until the warning is
cancelled.
* At 8:15 am Wednesday, the stage was 5.76 feet.
* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the Illinois River at Chewey is expected to rise above
flood stage early Thursday morning and continue to rise to near
13.3 feet by early Thursday afternoon. The river is expected to
fall below flood stage late Thursday evening.
* Impact... at 13.0 feet, minor flooding occurs from near fidler's Bend
to near Hanging Rock. Water begins to affect access to Winset
Hollow. Road access near the river to residential homes southeast
of Chewey bridge may be compromised. Water impacts 630 Road east of
the Cherokee/Adair County line. Extreme turbulence makes the river
unsafe for floating.

* from this evening to Thursday evening, or until the warning is
cancelled.
* At 8:00 am Wednesday, the stage was 5.61 feet.
* Flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the Illinois River near Watts is expected to rise above
flood stage this evening and continue to rise to near 15.8 feet by
Thursday before dawn. The river is expected to fall below flood
stage Thursday afternoon.
* Impact... at 15.0 feet, minor flooding occurs from the Arkansas
border to near fidler's Bend. Permanent campgrounds are affected.
Extreme turbulence makes the river unsafe for floating.

Oklahoma... Adair... Le Flore and Sequoyah.

* Until 1 PM CDT this afternoon


* the threat for additional heavy rain has ended, although
periods of light to moderate rain is expected to continue
into the early afternoon. An additional inch of rain will
be possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means rapidly rising water or flooding is
possible within the watch area.

flooding is the leading cause of weather related deaths.
