Watches & Warnings

Heat Advisory
Issued: 7:10 PM CDT Jul. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory is in effect from noon to 7 PM CDT Saturday...

* timing and areas affected... for all of northwest and north
central Alabama from noon until 7 PM CDT on Saturday.

* Temperature... temperatures well into the mid 90s combined with
high relative humidity will produce heat index values in the
105 to 109 degree range again Saturday afternoon.

* Impacts... the combination of heat and humidity will lead to an
increased risk for heat related illnesses, including heat
stroke and dehydration for those outside or without air
conditioning. Additionally, car interiors will reach lethal
temperatures within a matter of minutes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the evening period.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and
drink plenty of water. Check up on relatives and neighbors.
Absolutely do not leave children or pets unattended in vehicles!

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency, call 911.
