The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Warning for urban areas and small streams in...
central Cabarrus County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...

north central Union County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...

* until 430 am EDT Tuesday

* at 1029 PM EDT, reporting gauges indicate that the Rocky River
above irish Buffalo Creek is currently in minor flood stage. Three
to four inches of rain have fallen in the last 24 hours, and
additional amounts of one to two inches are possible over the next
six hours. Additonally, numerous Road closures due to flooding
have been reported near the Rocky River.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
downtown Concord, West Concord, Harrisburg, Midland, Charlotte
motor Speedway, Hemby Bridge, Fairview in Union County, Mint Hill,
Stallings and Kannapolis.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross
water-covered roadways, bridges, or low-level crossings. Only a few
inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is
not Worth the risk. Please turn around, don't drown.

When it is safe to do so, please report flood waters or landslides
flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on
our facebook Page, or via twitter using hashtag nwsgsp. Your message
should describe the event and the specific location where it
occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names and
other landmarks.

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of Piedmont North Carolina, including the following
areas, Alexander, Cabarrus, Catawba, Davie, Iredell,
Mecklenburg, Rowan, and Union.

* Through Tuesday morning

* additional bands of moderate rain showers will likely move west
across the North Carolina Piedmont through the early morning
hours. Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches could impact
saturated areas where upwards of 3 to 5 inches have already
fallen over the past two days. Rivers and streams surrounding
the Interstate 77 corridor area are already running at elevated
levels, and additional flooding could develop near swollen
streams. Ongoing flooding could worsen as well.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
