Coastal Flood Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 3:55 AM EDT Oct. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk in effect through this evening...
... Coastal flood advisory in effect until 1 PM EDT Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a coastal flood
advisory, which is in effect until 1 PM EDT Saturday. A high rip
current risk has also been issued. This high rip current risk is
in effect through this evening.

* Coastal flooding impacts... likely flooding of coastal roads,
parking lots, and docks in vulnerable areas during the times of
high tide. The high tides today will be between 730 and 930 am,
tonight between 8 and 10 PM, and Friday between 8 and 10 am.

* Coastal flooding timing... coastal flooding at high tide through
at least Saturday morning.

* Rip current impacts... strong rip currents are forecast to occur
along the Atlantic beaches of Palm Beach County today, which
will be hazardous for those in the surf zone.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
