Issued: 10:36 AM MDT Jul. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through this evening...

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of south central Arizona,
including the following areas, Apache Junction/Gold Canyon, Cave
Creek/New River, Dripping Springs, Fountain Hills/East Mesa,
Globe/Miami, Mazatzal Mountains, New River Mesa, northwest Pinal
County, Pinal/Superstition Mountains, Rio Verde/Salt River, San
Carlos, southeast Gila County, Superior, and Tonto Basin.

* Through midnight tonight.

* Thunderstorms will be capable of producing very heavy rainfall.
Some storms will be capable of rainfall rates of up to 2 inches
per hour. The threat of heavy rain will be greatest along the
higher terrain north and east of Phoenix.

* Washes may rapidly fill with water, even where storms are not
present. Low water crossings and roadways may become impassable.
Burn areas and communities may also be susceptible to flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that flooding of washes, creeks and
other drainage areas is possible within the watch area. If you
are in the watch area, you should watch the weather and be
prepared to take immediate action should heavy rain and flooding
occur or a Flash Flood Warning be issued.
