Watches & Warnings

High Wind Warning, Wind Advisory
Issued: 4:37 PM MDT Apr. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening...
... High Wind Warning in effect from 9 PM this evening to 8 PM MDT
Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High
Wind Warning, which is in effect from 9 PM this evening to 8 PM
MDT Tuesday.

* Location... south central mountains and southwest Chaves County.

* Winds... west and southwest at 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50
mph through this evening, then strengthening tonight with
occasional gusts approaching 60 mph. West at 30 to 40 mph with
gusts around 60 mph on Tuesday.

* Timing... winds will remain strong through tonight, then
strengthen further on Tuesday, before weakening but remaining
windy Tuesday night.

* Visibility... locally reduced at times in dust prone locations.

* Local impacts... strong cross winds will impact north-to-south
roads like I-25. Light-weight and unsecured objects may become
airborne. Flimsy structures may topple over.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Motorists should exercise caution while travelling. Sudden gusts
of wind may cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Extra
attention should be given to cross winds.

Remember, a High Wind Warning means damaging winds are imminent
or highly likely. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or
gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 2:07 PM MDT Apr. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning remains in effect until 9 PM MDT this evening
for strong winds and low relative humidities for fire weather
zones 055, 056, 111, 112, and 113... ..

The National Weather Service in El Paso TX/Santa Teresa has
cancelled the Fire Weather Watch for Tuesday... a red flag warning
is still in effect through early this evening.

* Wind... west-southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

* Humidity... 5 to 9 percent.

* Highest threat Monday... west of a line from Alamogordo to El
Paso.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread
rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
