Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 4:52 PM MDT Jul. 26, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a

* Arroyo and small stream flood advisory for...
southern Dona Ana County in south central New Mexico...

* until 645 PM MDT

* at 449 PM MDT, National Weather Service employees reported over
one inch of very heavy rain in under an hour near the Dona Ana
County jetport. This resulted from a very strong wet microburst.

* Flooding will remain over mainly rural areas of southern Dona Ana
County.

Additional rainfall of up to one inch is expected over the area.
This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

... Significant weather advisory for southwestern Otero County until
600 PM MDT...

At 518 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a line of strong
thunderstorms near Orogrande, moving west at 5 mph.

Pea size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with
these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Orogrande.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through
flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional
information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
