Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 5:27 PM EDT Jun. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a

* flood advisory for minor flooding in...
Berkeley County in southeastern South Carolina...

* until 730 PM EDT

* at 522 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding. Overflowing poor
drainage areas will result in minor flooding in the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Moncks Corner, Murraysville, Sugar Hill, and Pinopolis.

National Weather Service radar estimates that 2 to 2.5 inches of
rain has fallen in the Moncks Corner area in the last 1 to 2 hours.
The thunderstorms over the area is nearly stationary and an
additional 1 to 2 inches will be possible over the next 1 to 2
hours. This additional rain will result in minor flooding of low
lying and poor drainage areas in and around Moncks Corner. Impacted
roadways could include Highway 17 alternate, Highway 52, and west
Main Street among others.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

This heavy rainfall will result in significant ponding of water on
area roads and in low spots. Slow down to reduce the risk of
hydroplaning. If water covers the entire roadway or is flowing, find
another Route. The water is probably much deeper than it appears and
only one foot of water can stall a vehicle. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice, turn around, don't drown.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.
