Special Statement
Issued: 4:42 AM EDT Apr. 19, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Increased fire danger today...

The increased fire danger risk exists for all of southeast North
Carolina and northeast South Carolina for today.

A tightened surface pressure gradient ahead of an approaching cold
front will produce southwest to west winds at 10 to 20 mph with
gusts up to 30 mph across the entire region. The cold front will
push across the area during the mid to late afternoon hours today
to off the Carolina coasts by or during early this evening. Winds
immediately after the frontal passage will become northwest to
north at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 to 30 mph.

These strong winds, when combined with forecast afternoon relative
humidity values of 25 to 30 percent, will create the potential for
fires to quickly spread and become out of control. As a result,
burning outdoors is not recommended. Any brush fires that occur
may quickly spread if left unattended. If you must burn, have fire
suppression equipment nearby.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether
you can burn today. If you do burn, you are advised to use extreme
caution.
