Watches & Warnings

Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 9:20 AM CDT May. 29, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flood advisory in effect until 4 PM CDT this
afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a
coastal flood advisory, which is in effect until 4 PM CDT this
afternoon.

* Coastal flooding... observed water levels between 3.3 and 4 feet
MLLW. Waves on top of this will push water even further up
beaches.

* Rip currents... high risk of strong rip currents.

* Timing... through late afternoon.

* Impacts... water and wave run up may approach or overwash low
lying coastal roads and to, or over, dunes at high tide. In
particular, higher risk areas for problems will be the Bolivar
Peninsula, western Galveston Island, the Blue Water Highway, and
Surfside. Strong rip currents and high surf will make swimming
dangerous at area beaches. Check with a lifeguard before
entering the water.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

* Event... southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph near
the coast and beaches.

* Timing... through late afternoon.

* Impact... unsecured outdoor items prone to be displaced. Driving
will be hazardous... especially high profile vehicles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Drivers of vans... campers... trailers... and other high-profile
vehicles should be alert to the danger of these winds.
