* Flood Warning for urban areas and small streams in...
southeastern Iredell County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
southwestern Rowan County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...

* until 630 PM EDT Monday

* at 627 am EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that heavy rain was falling over the area. The heavy rain will
cause flooding. 3-4 inches of rain have fallen over the past
24 hours. An additional 1-2 inches of rain is likely over the
next 12-24 hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Salisbury, Mooresville, China Grove, Spencer, Cleveland, Mount
Ulla, Piedmont research station and Woodleaf.

* Spotter report of a stranded car along Graham Rd. Near Mount Ulla
with a possible inundated bridge due to floodwaters from Back Creek
and/or sills creek.

* Flooding of numerous small and large streams is likely, including:
Back Creek, sills creek, Beaverdam creek, Withrow creek,
weathers creek, second creek, Grants creek, Kerr creek, and
Town Creek.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross
water-covered roadways, bridges, or low-level crossings. Only a few
inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is
not Worth the risk. Please turn around, don't drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, highways, and underpasses. Addditionally, country
roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks, streams, and other
low-lying areas are subject to flooding.

When it is safe to do so, please report flood waters or landslides
flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather

Areal Flood Watch, Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 3:15 PM EDT Apr. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch now in effect through Tuesday morning...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* a portion of Piedmont North Carolina, including the following
areas, Alexander, Cabarrus, Catawba, Davie, Iredell,
Mecklenburg, Rowan, and Union.

* Through Tuesday morning

* additional rounds of heavy showers are expected into tonight,
perhaps resulting in a localized additional inch of rainfall. On
top of saturated soils, lingering high water conditions,
elevated stream levels, flooding will be maintained, if not
aggravated.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* flood advisory for...
a dam floodgate release in...
north central Catawba County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
south central Alexander County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
west central Iredell County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...

* until 1145 PM EDT Monday

* flooding will result along the shoreline of Lookout Shoals Lake
from an upstream dam floodgate release at Oxford dam due to heavy
rainfall received over the past 48 hours. Additional rainfall
of less than one inch is possible over the next 12 hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Lookout Shoals Lake and properties along Buck Point Rd, Northcrest
St, and ridge St near carpenters Cove. Backyard flooding, other
shoreline flooding, and dock flooding is likely or ongoing.

* Lookout Shoals Lake is projected to reach between 102 and 103 feet.
Full pool is 100.0 ft. The Lake May not return to full pool
until tomorrow.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Residents are encouraged to heed local law enforcement guidance for
appropriate response to rising pool elevations.

heavy rain which will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.
3-4 inches of rain have fallen over the past 24 hours. An
additional inch of rain is likely over the next 12 hours.

* Emergency management reports minor flooding of the following
locations:
chief Thomas Rd. At S Yadkin River,
Williamsburg Rd. At Rocky Creek, and
old Mocksville Rd. At fifth creek.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Statesville, Troutman, Love Valley, Turnersburg, Olin, Woodleaf,
Scotts, Cool Springs, Cooleemee and Cleveland.

* Scattered, nuisance stream flooding is possible, including along:
fifth creek, fourth creek, Third Creek, Beaver Creek,
Rocky Creek, Olin creek, south Yadkin River, Snow Creek, and
Bell Branch.

flooding in the advisory area. 3-4 inches of rain have fallen
over the past 24 hours. An additional 1-2 inches of rain is
likely over the next 12 hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Harmony, Sheffield and Union Grove.

* The following streamgauge is above action stage and may exceed
minor flood stage:
Hunting Creek near Harmony

current stage: 16.67 ft / action stage: 17.0 ft

impacts: at 16.0 ft, hunting river will overflow banks and approach
the Houstonville Rd. Bridge. At 17.0 ft, floodwaters may enter
back yards of homes near Sheffield and parts of Saw Mill Rd. May
flood.

Hunting Creek, Long Branch, little Hunting Creek, and Bear Creek.
