The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the South Fork Catawba river at Lowell.
* From this afternoon to Tuesday evening... or until the warning is
cancelled.
* At 6:30 am Monday the stage was 8.7 feet and rising.
* Action stage is 9.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by this afternoon and continue to
rise to near 10.5 feet by this evening. The river will fall below
flood stage by Tuesday morning.
* Impact... at 9.0 feet... action stage. South Fork Catawba river
floodwaters begin to enter Riverside Park in Cramerton.
* Impact... at 10.0 feet... minor flood stage. South Fork Catawba
river floodwaters are beginning to inundate Goat Island park.
Floodwaters are approaching Riverside Dr near 5th and 6th streets
in Cramerton. Floodwaters may be approaching Lakeview Dr. Adjacent
to Pharr yarns in McAdenville.

... Flood Watch remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of North Carolina and upstate South Carolina,
including the following areas, in North Carolina, Avery,
Buncombe, Burke mountains, Caldwell mountains, Cleveland,
eastern McDowell, eastern Polk, Gaston, greater Burke, greater
Caldwell, greater Rutherford, Henderson, Lincoln, McDowell
Mountains, Mitchell, Polk mountains, Rutherford mountains,
Transylvania, and Yancey. In upstate South Carolina,
Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, greater Greenville,
greater Pickens, Greenville mountains, Greenwood, Laurens,
Pickens mountains, Spartanburg, Union, and York.

* Until 8 PM EDT this evening

* localized heavy rain remains possible into this evening. On top
of saturated soils, lingering high water conditions, elevated
stream levels, flooding may redevelop.
