... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 7 PM this evening to
5 PM EDT Saturday...
The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued
a coastal Flood Advisory... which is in effect from 7 PM this
evening to 5 PM EDT Saturday.
* Hazards... minor coastal flooding with a high threat of rip
* Location... high rip current risk north of Cape Lookout.
* Coastal flooding... water levels 1 to 2 2 feet above normal for
areas adjacent to Pamlico Sound. Water levels will remain
elevated through Saturday due to large amounts of flood waters
which have drained into the sound over the past week combined
with high astronomical tides and strong northwest winds.
* Timing and tides... minor Soundside flooding expected tonight
through Saturday afternoon. The rip current risk is greatest a
couple of hours either side of low tide... which will be around 9
am this morning.
* Impacts... high water may flood roads and may impact some
properties... especially in low lying areas.
If caught in a rip current remain calm. Don't fight the current.
Swim in a direction following the shoreline. When out of the
current... swim back to shore. If tired... float or tread water
until out of the rip current. If unable to escape... face the
shore and call or wave for help.
