Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 11:45 PM EDT May. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... The flood advisory remains in effect until 100 am EDT for
southern Alamance... Wayne... southern Orange... northeastern
Harnett... northeastern Randolph... southeastern
Guilford... southwestern wake... Johnston... northern Chatham and
southwestern Durham counties...

At 1142 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause
minor flooding in the advisory area. Up to two inches of rain has
already fallen. The heaviest rainfall is current drifting over the
city of Durham and nearby Bethesda, as well as Forest Oaks and
Pleasant Garden in southeast Guilford County.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel HIll, Goldsboro, Smithfield, Pittsboro,
Garner, and Carrboro.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of floods and flash floods. If flash flooding is observed act
quickly. Move up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay
in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.
