Heat Advisory
Issued: 4:44 PM CDT Jun. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory now in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening...

* apparent temperature... 111 to 115.

* Impacts... persons and pets not sufficiently hydrated before
during and after spending any time in the heat may face the
risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory is issued when the heat index... a measure of how
it feels when temperature and humidity are combined... equals or
exceeds 111 for 2 hours or more during the day.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency - call 9 1 1.

Heat kills! Never leave children and pets unattended in vehicles.
Temperatures can become lethal in minutes... rising above
130 degrees.

The elderly and people with chronic illness tend to be affected
the most by the heat. Heat exhaustion... cramps... or in extreme
cases heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure. Friends...
relatives... or neighbors should check on people who may be at
risk.
