Beach Hazard Statement
Issued: 3:04 AM EDT Oct. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Beach hazards statement in effect through this evening...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a beach
hazards statement for rough surf and dangerous rip currents,
which is in effect through this evening.

* Hazards... east winds and swell will create rough surf along
with rip currents in the surf zone.

* Timing... expect rough surf and rip currents through the day.

* Potential impacts... rough surf can be more dangerous than it
appears while standing on the beach. Heavy breaking waves can
knock you off a sandbar into deeper water or into strong
currents.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
