Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 3:41 AM EST Jan. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to
1 PM Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow and sleet... which is in effect from 1
PM this afternoon to 1 PM Tuesday. The Winter Storm Watch is no
longer in effect.

* Locations... Luzerne... Lackawanna... southern Wayne... and Pike
counties in northeast Pennsylvania as well as Sullivan County in
central New York.

* Hazard types... heavy wet snow... sleet... and strong winds.

* Accumulations... 3 to 5 inches of heavy wet snow and sleet.

* Timing... rain will move into the area this morning. The rain
will mix with sleet and snow primarily this afternoon as colder
air moves into the region. Light freezing rain may be possible
but is not the main threat. By this evening, most of the region
will transition to a wintry mix of snow and sleet. The
combination of snow and sleet... which may be heavy at times,
will continue into Tuesday morning and possibly mix back with
rain.

* Impacts... the wet snow and sleet will create very poor travel
conditions as roads will become snow covered and slippery. The
storm will be accompanied by strong winds which may result in
power outages.

* Winds... northeast 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

* Temperatures... in the lower to middle 30s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while
driving.
