Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 3:03 PM EDT Jul. 21, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch now in effect from Monday morning through
Tuesday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* southeastern Pennsylvania, much of New Jersey, all of Delaware,
and northeastern Maryland.

* From Monday morning through Tuesday morning

* showers and thunderstorms are forecast to bring periods of
heavy rain to our region from Monday into Monday night.
Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected to be common,
with local amounts up to 3 to 4 inches possible.

* There is the potential for flooding along small streams and
creeks, on roadways and in areas of poor drainage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that there is the potential for flash
flooding which can be life-threatening. Heavy rain is expected to
occur over a relatively short period of time. Rapidly rising
flood waters may quickly inundate roadways and areas of poor
drainage. Streams and creeks could leave their banks, flooding
nearby properties.

Please monitor the forecast, especially if you live in a location
that is prone to flooding. Be prepared to take action if a Flash
Flood Warning is issued for your area.

Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 3:09 PM EDT Jul. 21, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 10 PM EDT this
evening...

* heat index values... up to 110 due to temperatures in the mid
90s, and dewpoints in the mid 70s.

* Timing... the most dangerous of the heat and humidity will occur
through early this evening..

* impacts... the heat and humidity may cause heat stress during
outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or
the late evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion
and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing.
Drink plenty of water.

To reduce your risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety
and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest
breaks in a shaded or air conditioned environment. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool shaded location. Heat
stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation.
Stay in an air-conditioned environment, stay out of the sun, and
check on elderly relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in a
vehicle under any circumstance. This is especially true during
hot weather when a car's interior can reach lethal temperatures
in a matter of minutes.
