Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 5:54 AM AST Jan. 18, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk remains in effect through this
afternoon...

* breaking waves... between 3 to 6 feet and decreasing.

* Location... northwest through northeast facing beaches of
Puerto Rico.

* Timing... through this afternoon.

* Impacts... strong currents that can carry even the strongest
swimmers out to sea.

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins...
jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards... beach patrol
flags and signs.
