Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 7:47 AM EDT Sep. 28, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch in effect from late tonight through Friday
morning...

The National Weather Service in State College has issued a

* Flood Watch for a portion of central Pennsylvania... including
the following areas... Adams... Bedford... Blair... Cambria...
Cumberland... Franklin... Fulton... Huntingdon... Juniata...
Mifflin... Perry... Somerset and York.

* From late tonight through Friday morning

* a long duration rainfall will impact the area from Wednesday
evening through Friday morning. Widespread amounts of 3 to 5
inches are expected across the watch area... with locally higher
amounts possible.

* Dry initial conditions may initially mitigate the flood threat
across the area. However... persistent banding of moderate to
heavy rainfall and upslope flow into the south central mountains
and Laurel Highlands will produce locally heavier amounts up to
6 inches... which could bring small streams over bankful and
produce flooding of roadways and poor drainage areas. The
threat for mainstem river flooding is low at this time... given
extremely dry antecedent conditions... but this will be watched
closely over the next 24 to 36 hours.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding on small
streams... creeks... poor drainage... urban and low-lying areas
based on current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
