Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 3:24 AM EST Feb. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch in effect from Friday evening through Sunday
evening...

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a

* Flood Watch for a portion of north central New York... including
the following counties... Jefferson... Lewis and Oswego.

* From Friday evening through Sunday evening.

* A strong low pressure system moving through the Great Lakes will
produce several periods of rain, with total rainfall from Friday
through Saturday of around an inch. Much warmer temperatures will
also result in very rapid snowmelt across the Tug Hill plateau
and western Adirondacks.

* Flood potential will first impact smaller streams which drain
the Tug Hill plateau and western foothills of the Adirondacks,
with flooding possible in low lying areas and near streams
Friday night through Saturday. The larger rivers will then see
significant rises later Saturday and Sunday with flooding
possible along the entire reach of the Black River and
tributaries in Lewis and Jefferson counties, and possibly the Salmon
river and other smaller rivers in northern Oswego County.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop. Stay tuned to weather radio or other radio and TV
stations for further details or updates
