Watches & Warnings

Lake Effect Snow Watch
Issued: 2:25 PM EST Dec. 7, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect snow watch remains in effect from Thursday evening
through late Friday night...

* locations... southern Oneida... southern Cayuga... Onondaga... and
Madison counties.

* Accumulations... total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches
possible in the most persistent bands, mainly Friday and Friday
night, and over the higher terrain just south of the thruway
corridor.

* Timing... although some snow showers are expected Thursday
evening, the more persistent and heavier lake-effect snow bands
should shift into the region Friday morning, then continue
Friday night, before tapering off on Saturday.

* Impacts... the heavy snow will make travel difficult, and some
roads may become impassable. Gusty winds may result in
considerable blowing and drifting.

* Winds... west 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Temperatures... in the mid to upper 20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A lake effect snow watch means there is a potential for a large
amount of snow in only a few hours. Visibilities and depth of
snow can vary greatly... impacting travel significantly. Continue
to monitor the latest forecasts.
