Record highs are possible for parts of the Northeast Monday and Tuesday, as parts of the central U.S. take a little breather from the worst of summer's dog day heat.

Expansive high pressure in the upper atmosphere will focus on parts of the East and West this week, sending heat indices well into the triple digits from the Mid-Atlantic states into the South.

Issued: 6:25 PM EDT Jul. 25, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory remains in effect from noon to 6 PM EDT
Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Upton has cancelled the heat
advisory for today.

* Heat index values... heat index values around 95 Tuesday

* Timing... highest heat indices Tuesday afternoon.

* Impacts... the combination of the heat and humidity will
increase the risk for heat related health issues... especially
for the elderly... those with chronic health problems such as

heat sensitive groups of people.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory is issued for New York City when the combination

length of time.

Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health
conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air
conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures.

has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members
