Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 10:19 PM EDT Jul. 30, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly NJ has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
central Mercer County in central New Jersey...
southeastern Somerset County in northern New Jersey...
southwestern Middlesex County in northern New Jersey...

* until 215 am EDT

* at 1008 PM EDT... flooding continued across portions of Mercer,
Somerset, and Middlesex counties. The Millstone River was
flooding in Somerset County. The assunpink was rising and
approaching flood stage in Mercer County. Lawrence brook in
Middlesex County was also rising.

Additional creeks continued to run high as well. Roads have been
closed and remain closed at this time. Water rescues were
conducted earlier this evening. Up to six inches of rain have
fallen since 300 PM. The worst flooding has been between Monmouth
Junction and Cranbury and from Princeton to Plainsboro... including
the Route one corridor. Until the water subsides, this remains a
dangerous situation. Do not go around Road barriers. The West
Windsor Police Department declared a state of emergency for West
Windsor township earlier this evening.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Trenton... New Brunswick... Somerset... East Brunswick...
South Brunswick... North Brunswick... Ewing... Princeton... Cranbury...
Rocky Hill... Millstone... North Brunswick township...
Lawrenceville... Kingston... Kendall Park... Dayton...
Plainsboro center... Princeton Meadows...
Mercerville-Hamilton Square and South River.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

Driving into flood waters could put your life at risk and cost you
thousands of dollars in vehicle repairs. Flood waters may be deeper
that you think. Turn around and find an alternate Route.
