Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 2:06 AM EDT Jul. 31, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly NJ has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
central Mercer County in central New Jersey...
southeastern Somerset County in northern New Jersey...
southwestern Middlesex County in northern New Jersey...

* until 615 am EDT

* at 200 am EDT... some flooding continues across portions of Mercer,
Somerset, and Middlesex counties due to excessive rainfall on
Saturday afternoon into early Saturday evening. The Millstone
River is flooding in Somerset County, and the Lawrence brook in
Middlesex County is also flooding. The Assunpink Creek however in
Mercer County remained below flood stage and continues to recede.

* Additional creeks are running high, however these should be
receding early this morning. Several roads have been closed. The
worst of the flooding occurred between Monmouth Junction and
Cranbury and from Princeton to Plainsboro, including the Route one
corridor. Until the water completely subsides, there remains a
danger. Do not go around Road barriers.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Trenton... New Brunswick... Somerset... East Brunswick...
South Brunswick... North Brunswick... Ewing... Princeton... Cranbury...
Rocky Hill... Millstone... North Brunswick township...
Lawrenceville... Kingston... Kendall Park... Dayton...
Plainsboro center... Princeton Meadows...
Mercerville-Hamilton Square and South River.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.
