Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 4:47 PM EST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday
morning...

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a

* Flood Watch for eastern Massachusetts except Cape Cod and the
islands as well as Rhode Island except Block Island.

* From Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.

* Areas of heavy rainfall will push across the watch area by late
Monday afternoon and continue into early Tuesday morning.
Rainfall rates may exceed an inch per hour at times. Total
rainfall amounts will range from 2 to 2.5 inches in the watch
area... with the heaviest rainfall expected to occur late Monday
afternoon and Monday night. Higher amounts are possible where
heavy rain bands move across the same area.

* Flooding of urban... poor drainage and low lying areas is the
greatest threat. Smaller rivers and streams with fast response
times are also susceptible to flooding due to rapid runoff from
intense rainfall rates. Widespread main Stem river flooding
should remain in their banks.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
