High Surf Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 4:11 AM AST Jan. 23, 2019 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk remains in effect through late Friday
night...
... High surf advisory in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 PM
AST Thursday...

The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued a high surf
advisory, which is in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 PM AST
Thursday.

* Waves and surf... breaking waves increasing to 10-13 feet
starting tonight.

* Location... beaches of Culebra.

* Timing... through Friday night.

* Impacts... strong currents that can carry even the best of
swimmers out to sea. Dangerous surf conditions with large
breaking waves. Localized beach erosion is possible during times
of high tide.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.
