Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 5:08 PM PDT Mar. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... The urban and small stream flood advisory remains in effect until
700 PM PDT for eastern Ventura and northern Los Angeles counties...

At 501 PM PDT, Doppler radar indicated two strong thunderstorms
developing around Castaic lake and the Lancaster and
Palmdale areas. Hourly rainfall rates have been near an inch per
hour on the western storm. These storms were moving slowly east. Do
not go into dry river beds... washes... arroyos, as heavy rain can
cause these dry areas to become fast moving waterways. Do not drive
across flooded roadways. Turn around don't drown. Lake Hughes Road
in the powerhouse burn area could see some minor mud and debris
flows with these storms.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

on west facing beaches due to elevated and strong surf of 3 to 6

A beach hazards statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents... longshore currents... sneaker waves and other hazards
create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution
should be used when in or near the water.
