Issued: 11:46 AM MDT Apr. 29, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 3 am MDT Sunday...

* snow accumulations... generally 6 to 12 inches over portions of
northeast New Mexico. Areas along the Colorado border near
Raton Pass east through northern Union County, as well as the
peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, may see amounts of 12
and 18 inches.

* Timing... snow will continue through the afternoon and evening,
then taper off later tonight.

* Winds... north to northeast at 20 to 30 mph with occasional
gusts over 40 mph today across the northeast plains, Raton
ridge and far northeast Highlands. Winds slowly diminishing
tonight.

* Snow levels... snow levels will be cold enough for snow at all
locations.

* Local impacts... travel will become hazardous or even impossible
over portions of north central and northeast New Mexico today,
especially on Interstate 25 between Glorieta Pass and Raton
Pass, highways 64 and 87 from Raton to Clayton and Interstate 40
between Tijeras Clines Corners. In addition, heavy snow
accumulating on trees that have already leafed-out may lead to
tree damage and falling limbs.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow and blowing snow means
severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring.
Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel
dangerous. Strong winds are likely. Only travel in an emergency.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.
