Heat Advisory
Issued: 3:22 AM CDT Jul. 29, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM CDT
this evening...

The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has issued a
heat advisory, which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to
8 PM CDT this evening.

* Temperature... high temperatures around 103 degrees and heat
index values around 106 to 109 degrees.

* Impacts... prolonged exposure to the heat and/or exertion
outdoors without proper hydration and other precautionary
actions may result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible.

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, wear light weight and
loose fitting clothing when possible, and take breaks in the
shade or an air conditioned building. Limit strenuous outdoor
activities to early morning or evening and check up on the
elderly, sick, and those without air conditioning. Know the signs
and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Never leave
children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a couple
minutes, and remember to look before you lock!

Special Statement
Issued: 4:04 AM CDT Jul. 28, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Elevated heat index values continue into the weekend...

Afternoon heat index values will peak during the afternoons in
the 103 to 107 degree range for much of south central Texas
today. The heat indices in some isolated spots east of I-35 could
reach up to 108 degrees for a brief time. These elevated heat
index values could increase and become more widespread Saturday
resulting in a possible heat advisory.

Regardless, please take extra precautions if you work or spend
time outside in the afternoon. Stay hydrated and take breaks in
the shade or an air conditioned building. Limit strenuous outdoor
activities and check up on the elderly, sick and those without air
conditioning. Never leave children or pets unattended in a
vehicle... even for a couple minutes... and remember to look before
you lock!
