... The flood advisory remains in effect until 415 PM EDT for
northeastern Brunswick County...

At 248 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.
Up to 3 inches of rain have fallen from Bolivia to Boiling Spring
Lakes.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Leland, Boiling Spring Lakes, northwest, Bishop, Batarora, Mill
Creek, Town Creek, Phoenix, Winnabow, Belville, Navassa, Sandy Creek
and Bolivia.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EDT this
afternoon...

* heat index values... up to 108 due to temperatures in the upper
80s to lower 90s, and dewpoints in the upper 70s.

* Timing... through late this afternoon.

* Impacts... high heat and humidity will increase the risk for
heat exhaustion and even heat stroke if precautionary measures
are not taken.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. To
reduce the risk of heat illness during outdoor work, the
occupational safety and health administration recommends
scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned
environments.

... Special Weather Statement for southeastern Brunswick County until
400 PM EDT...

At 324 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Oak Island, moving southeast at 15 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Oak Island, Holden Beach, Caswell Beach, Bald Head Island, Yaupon
Beach, Boiling Spring Lakes, St. James, Southport, civie town, Long
Beach, Varnamtown and dosher Memorial hospital.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
