... Strong rip currents observed between Avon and Rodanthe...

Localized strong rip currents and multiple rescues were occurring
between Avon and Rodanthe, according to Hatteras Island Rescue
personnel. The most likely time for strong rip currents is
several hours either side of low tide, which occurs around noon
today. It is strongly advised to stay out of the surf until the
rip current threat subsides late in the afternoon.
