Lake Effect Snow Advisory
Issued: 3:28 AM EST Dec. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect Snow Advisory in effect from 10 PM this evening to
7 am EST Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a lake
effect Snow Advisory... which is in effect from 10 PM this evening
to 7 am EST Saturday. The lake effect snow watch is no longer in
effect.

* Locations... southern Oneida... southern Cayuga... Onondaga... and
Madison counties.

* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches, with much of
the snowfall occurring Friday and Friday night. The higher
terrain in southern Onondaga and southern Madison counties will
see the most snowfall.

* Timing... some snow showers are expected this evening, but the
more persistent and heavier lake effect snow bands will shift
into the region Friday morning and continue Friday night before
tapering off on Saturday.

* Impacts... lake effect snow and gusty winds will lead to
considerable blowing and drifting of snow along with whiteout
conditions at times. This will result in very dangerous travel.

* Winds... west 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Temperatures... in the middle to upper 20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A lake effect Snow Advisory Means Lake-effect snow is forecast
that will make travel difficult in some areas. Lake-effect snow
showers typically align themselves in bands and will likely be
intense enough to drop several inches in localized areas. Use
caution when traveling.

Special Statement
Issued: 7:10 PM EST Dec. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... An area of heavy snow will affect northern Oneida County...

At 705 PM EST, an area of heavy snow was located across Oswego
County and moving east. Snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour are
likely within the heaviest part of the band. These snowfall rates
will produce near whiteout conditions and make travelvery dangerous.
This area of heavy snow will impact northern Oneida County
especially north of Rome toward the County line with Lewis and
Oswego counties. Route 13 from Camden north, Route 26 from Stokes
Corner north, and Route 12 north of Barneveld are likely to become
snow covered quickly.

Locations impacted include...
Rome, Lee, Trenton, Camden, Boonville, Forestport, Steuben, Florence,
Ava and Remsen.

Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this dangerous
snow squall. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads
are likely to lead to accidents. Consider delaying travel until the
squall passes your location.

Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be
prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra
time when traveling.
