Special Weather Statement
Issued: Environment Canada
Special Weather Statement issued by Environment. 08:24 PM ADT Friday 21 July 2017.
Conditions are favourable for the development of squalls with wind gusts up to 35 knots.

Multiple thunderstorms are affecting the Northumberland Strait this evening.

A new thunderstorm has begun to move offshore over the western Northumberland Strait. This thunderstorm has the potential to produce strong wind gusts near 35 knots near midnight.

The thunderstorm over the eastern Northumberland Strait has begun to move onshore to Cape Breton Island. Although lightning activity remains over the eastern Northumberland Strait marine region, current radar observations indicate that the potential for gale force gusts over the marine district has diminished. Strong wind gusts associated with this thunderstorm will continue late this evening; however, gusts reaching or exceeding 35 knots are no longer expected.
