Flash Flood Warning
Issued: 6:25 PM MDT Jul. 26, 2017 – National Weather Service

... The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 845 PM MDT for
east central Custer and west central Pueblo counties...

At 620 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy
rain across the warned area, with the heaviest rain currently
falling on northern and eastern portions of the junkins burn scar.
Doppler radar is indicating up to one inch of rain has already
fallen across the area, with flash flooding across the junkins burn
scar likely occuring.

Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will result in debris flow
moving through the hardsrabble drainage. The debris flow can consist
of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.

Flash flooding will remain over mainly rural areas of east central
Custer and west central Pueblo counties.

This includes the following streams and drainages... south Red
Creek... Middle Creek... Yellow Creek... Smith Creek... Bishop creek...
Junkins Park creek... Antelope Creek... South Fork north hardscrabble
creek... lefthand Fork North Creek... south hardscrabble creek... ditch
creek... north Saint Charles river... middle hardscrabble creek...
hardscrabble creek... north hardscrabble creek and middle Red Creek.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

Move away from recently burned areas. Life-threatening flooding of
creeks, roads and normally dry arroyos is likely. The heavy rains
will likely trigger Rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep
terrain, especially in and around these areas.
